The Directory Submitter - Increase your Link Popularity and Website Traffic

Topics: I Recommend    Posted: April 7th, 2007    By: Erum Munir

A few days back I purchased the Link Directory Submitter version 2.4.

I had already used the demo of the older version and really liked it. This one is even better. Read on to find out the good and the bad and see if this program is something that can work for you.

First of all let me tell you why adding your website to a zillion directories is an effective method of gaining traffic to your website. Later I’ll tell you about the program features and my experience with it.

  • Submitting your website to so many directories means that you will get back links from them. This will increase your Link Popularity with Google. Since LP is one of the factors in Google rankings, increasing it means a good Google ranking in the long term. This translates as more traffic for your website.

Alright, now that we have that out of the way :) I’m sure you want to know all about the program.

  • There are 2100 directories that you can technically submit your website to. These range from PR 0 to PR 8. At least half are over PR 3. You can see the PR with each directory so you can choose which ones to submit your website to.
  • You can add profiles for different websites. This information will be pre-filled in the directory submit url forms. This makes it so much easier to add your website as you don’t have to fill the forms manually.
  • There is a list of directories in the right margin. You can open these in tabbed windows. This again saves time as you can add in one tab and load 9 more directories at the same time.
  • The best thing about this program is a reciprocal link script. A majority of directories ask that you link to them first. Your listing will only get submitted if they detect their link at your website. The reciprocal link script lets you add the link to your website with just one click from inside the Directory Submitter.

I do have some items on my wishlist for the program.

  1. I wish the paid directories were listed separately from the free ones. This will enable you to tell them apart at a glance without opening the directory.
  2. Secondly, the reciprocal link is added to your website only if the script detects the field. In case it doesn’t detect it there is no manual option to copy/paste the code and click add from within the program. This is a much needed addition IMO.

Edit: Turns out I was a bit blind … ooops! There is a filter option at the bottom of the directory list that lets you only view the free directories. As for the reciprocal link option, I just talked to the owners of this directory and they are going to be adding this feature. Isn’t that amazing!?

Since the program is continuosly being updated, I’m sure these issues will be resolved with time. I believe that it is still a valuable resource and does the job well. I have begun adding my wesbites slowly and even started receiving traffic directly from a couple of the more popular ones. So all in all not a bad deal!

So try the Directory Submitter and see if you also feel the same way.

Dear Erum, When I needed my SweetPeasMaternity.com website converted from one ecommerce setup to another I thought it was going to be a nightmare. I knew you never worked with wahmshoppes before but after seeing what a professional job you had done with other websites I decide to give you a try. Well I am so glad I did. Not only were you very reasonably priced you did an incredible job and it never hurt a bit. I highly recommend you and if you ever need a reference let me know. Thank you so much I will be calling on you again when I need changes to my WornButNotForgotten.com website. — Deb Levesque (Worn But Not Forgotten)
